The all new Cameo connects to your PC or Mac via a USB cable making it work much like a printer. However rather than printing it utilizes a small blade to cut various materials up to 12 inches wide and 120 inches long and just about everywhere in between. The Cameo also has the ability to register and cut printed materials. This is all accomplished through the Silhouette Studio software, your home printer, and the Cameo.

The first week in July this year (2011) I was talking with our Silhouette account rep and said "have you guys ever considered making a 12" wide cutter, cause that would be one kick a** machine".
His response was "We are always looking into new ideas".
Little did I know that they already had this machine up their sleeves. He just couldn't tell me yet because the Silhouette Cameo was set to be released at CHA two weeks later.
So needless to say we are super excited!
What Does This New Silhouette Cameo Do?
Well unfortunately we don't really know quite how special this new Silhouette machine is just yet.
There is very little information available on the Cameo at this point.
What we do know is that it will do everything the Silhouette SD will do, plus some.
The SD will only cut 9"x36" and the Cameo machine will cut 12"wide and 10 feet long, that's right 10 FEET LONG!
It also will do one of our favorite Silhouette machine features and that is print and cut. It has the ability to find registration marks so you can print an image on your regular printer and then cut around it with the Silhouette machine.
This is all accomplished through the fantastic, and free, Silhouette Studio software.
How Much Will The Silhouette Cameo Cost?
Currently the only info we have on the price is that MSRP is $299.99. Of course we hope to be able to offer the Cameo at a much better price than that, but we will have to see.
We are told the machines will be shipping out in October.
