The Great Recession of 2008 took its toll on many of us and Carl and Jessica Tyger were no exception to this. During these troubled times Carl was a contractor struggling to find work and Jessica was a stay at home mom to their son. Jessica had always had a love for crafting and was familiar with sign making. She combined those skills into a side hustle to help make ends meet.

One day Jessica noticed that the Cricut machine was growing in popularity and while this machine was initially introduced as a digital paper cutter, she recognized that at its heart it was a vinyl cutter for crafters. In that moment she realized that her fellow crafters needed a source for high quality vinyl that they could use on their machine.

Expressions Vinyl began early in 2009 as an Ebay store with only one product available in just a handful of colors. By the end of the year Carl had joined in by building a website and developing other operational efficiencies. As the year evolved Carl and Jessica applied their integrity to the business and developed a couple more core promises to their customers.

The first promise was to provide a high-quality product that they could stand behind. Next was a promise to fulfill orders quickly so crafters could bring their visions to life. The final promise was to provide out of this world customer service and information to beginners and experienced vinyl crafters.
