What is Aurora Vinyl 
Aurora vinyl is considered to be a special type of heat transfer vinyl. Heat transfer vinyl is a type of vinyl material used in the clothing and item industry for creating custom designs on fabrics through heat transfer and pressure. Depending on the type of material that you are transferring the vinyl onto, you may have to adjust the way that you are putting the vinyl on. Aurora vinyl is under HTV and is named for its special feature that changes colors depending on the angle that you are looking at it. Just like the beautiful and shimmering colors of the Northern and Southern Lights (auroras), this vinyl material exhibits a similar effect, transforming its appearance when light hits it differently. 

Process of using Aurora Vinyl
When it comes time to use your Aurora vinyl, you will want to be sure that you follow all steps correctly in order for the vinyl to transfer to the material correctly. It is not a complicated process but one that you need to pay attention to detail. If done properly, the vinyl will last longer on the material and give the completed and professional look that you are wanting. 

Choose a Design
Before you can even consider transferring vinyl, you will need the design that you are wanting to transfer to the material. You will want to be sure that your design will work with Aurora vinyl and highlight its uniqueness.  

Cut out the Design in the Vinyl 
Once you have decided on your design and figured out the exact size that you want it to be, you will be ready to cut out your design. The design will be cut out of your choice of Aurora vinyl using a vinyl cutter or even scissors.  Once cut out, weed out the pieces that you do not want in your design.  Weeding is the process of weeding out or removing unwanted pieces of vinyl. Your design will be left on what is called the carrier sheet. 

Preheat the Press and Material
As you get ready to press the design to the material, there are a few important steps that you must do beforehand. The press that you are using must be preheated to a certain temperature depending on the material type that you will be using. Aurora heat transfer vinyl uses a temperature of 305 degrees Fahrenheit. It is important to look up the directions for each material as it will guide you on which temperature will give you the best results but also not burn through the material. While the press is preheating, another vital step is that you preheat the area that the vinyl will be pressed onto. This can be done using an iron or clothing press. This will help smooth the fabric as well as release any moisture prior to pressing.

Transfer the Design 
Once both the press and the area the design will go are both preheated, you are able to put the design on the prepped area. The heat press is then activated, and heat and pressure are applied to the design. Be sure that the pressure is applied for 15 seconds and evenly throughout the whole design to help all the edges and corners adhere to the material. The adhesive backing on the heat transfer vinyl activates, causing the vinyl to adhere permanently to the fabric.

Peel the Backing Off
After the heat press cycle is complete, the carrier sheet should be easily able to peel off. Make sure to peel off the backing once it has cooled down, as it will come off easier and will not disturb your fresh design. With the backing pulled off you will be left with the vibrant and colorful design transferred onto the fabric.
