What is Sparkle Vinyl?

Sparkle vinyl is a special type of heat transfer vinyl. Heat transfer vinyl, or HTV, is a type of vinyl material that is used in the clothing industry that is applied to the material using both heat and pressure. There is not one way that you will apply the vinyl to the material, it truly depends on the type of material that you are applying the vinyl to. Although it is a type of HTV, it is unique because it takes the smooth finish of the glitter vinyl and is combined with an easy-to-weed carrier. This combination will result in a perfect sparkle finish.

Uses of Sparkle Vinyl

There are many different ways in which you could use your sparkle vinyl. It has the ability to stick to many different types of materials, which give you a lot of creative freedom with your projects. Some of the materials that sparkle vinyl can be used on include:

Polyester
Cotton
Poly-Cotton Blend

There are so many different projects that you can create with both this type of vinyl and these types of materials. Some of these projects could include:

Sweatshirts
T-shirts
Tote Bags
Jerseys
Towels
And so many more!

The Process of Applying Sparkle Vinyl

The sparkle vinyl application process is not one that is complicated, but in order to get the best finish possible on your creations, it is important that you take the time to make sure that each of these steps are followed exactly. Taking the time to follow these instructions will ensure that your projects turn out the way that you want, and that the vinyl will adhere to the material for a long time.

Choose a Design

The easiest way for you to express yourself through crafting is by choosing the design of the vinyl. The first step in the application process is to choose the design that you would like to have. You will need a cutting machine in order to cut it accurately. It is important to make sure that the correct side of the vinyl is lying face down on the cutting mat as well as mirroring or reversing your image before you start cutting out your designs.

Set the Correct Heat

The heat is the essential part of getting the vinyl to stick to your project. Using different types of either material or vinyl will depend on the temperature of the heat that you will want to use. It will be important for you to make sure to read the product description to check and see what it recommends. Taking this precaution when setting the temperature for the heat will ensure that the integrity of the vinyl remains, as well as will prevent holes from being burnt through the material that you are using. Typically, the temperature you will use ranges from 240-375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Preheat the Item

In order for the vinyl to stick to the material, it is essential that you preheat the item where the vinyl will be sticking. The preheating can be done using an iron or by using a heat press, if that is something that is available to you. This process not only heats the item up before adhering the vinyl, but it also smooths the fabric, as well as releases any moisture in the item prior to the heat pressing.

Place the Design and Apply Heat

Once the clothing item has been pressed, then you will be ready to place the vinyl design on it. It is important to know how long the heat needs to be placed there, and to make sure that there is a lot of pressure that is being applied to the design. This will help the corners of the vinyl from peeling in the future.

Once the time is up, you will want to remove the heat immediately. Removing the heat immediately ensures that you do not burn through the material, or the vinyl. Making sure to remove the product from the heat immediately is something that you need to do in order to help prevent both the vinyl, material, and the finished product from being ruined.

Peel the Cover Sheet from the Vinyl

After the heat has been both applied and taken off of the vinyl, the cover sheet is then ready to peel. You will want to make sure to follow the directions that come with the vinyl that you are using. For each different kind of vinyl, these instructions may differ. Some types need to completely cool before removing the cover sheet. This will just help to make sure that the design will stay intact while the cover sheet is peeled off.

As mentioned before, the process itself is not too complicated, but it is necessary to make sure that all of the steps are followed closely. Following the instructions will make sure that the vinyl will not only look good, but it will also maximize its longevity.
