Custom Fill Patterns With Silhouette Studio Designer Edition

Custom fill patterns are easy to acheive in the Silhouette Studio Designer Edition software. There are a variety of stock fill patterns available within the software as well, but you may want to add a fill that is very personal to you.

This is easy to acheive in just a few simple steps. First add a shape to your art board in Silhouette Studio. This can be any shape or text. Then open a folder containing the image you want to use for your custom fill. This needs to be a regular image file like .jpg or .png. If the file type is not supported the software will let you know.

Then just drag the image over the area you want to fill. This will only fill one cavity at a time, so if you are filling text it will only fill a letter and not the whole word. You also have ability to adjust the look of your fill pattern from the fill pattern advanced options menu.

There is a possibility that for the correct look you are trying to acheive you may have to adjust your image with a separate image editing software before using it as your fill pattern.

Cutting Larger Than The Mat With Your Silhouette Cameo

The Silhouette Cameo is capable of so many things, but one of the most common questions we hear is "how do I cut larger than the 12"x12" mat?". The magic for all this happens in the Silhouette Studio software, standard and designer editions. To accomplish this feat is really simple, but if you donlt know where to go to get started it can certainly be frustrating. Whether you are using the Cameo or the SD doesn't matter. You will set this in the software. So open up Silhouette studio and choose the "page tools" menu. Then from the page tools menu set the "cutting mat" setting to "none". Then lastly enter in the width of your media. This can be a bit confuing, because it is really the length of your media, but it is called width in the software. So if you want to cut a 12"x24" sheet of vinyl you would enter in a width of 24". With all this done you will now have a work area the size of your media on the screen.

Cameo Machine Settings

Setting your machine properly to cut your chosen media is critical to project success with the Silhouette Cameo. This can be a daunting task when trying out a new media. There three setting to be mindful of when adjusting your machine. Blade depth, pressure, and speed. Blade depth is physically set on the Cameo machine itself. Think of this like the rough adjustment. This is the setting that is going to quickly get you close to where you want to be. Pressure and speed are both set in the Silhouette Studio software. Pressure is the fine tuning of your cut depth. This is the setting that gets it just right. And finally speed just depends on the intricacy of what you are cutting. very basic shapes can go faster than highly detailed cuttings.
