10 Handmade Teacher Gifts
Hey guys! It is McKenzie from Girl Loves Glam! It is that time of year again! Time to fight over notebooks and folders with strangers and stand in freakishly long lines to get the best deals on back to school jeans. As a teacher's wife, I have seen my fair share of "teacher gifts" that he brings home. It is time that the mugs full of chocolate come to a stop. I asked a real life teacher what he would want from his students to kick of his school year. We came up with 10 great handmade teacher gifts that you can make using vinyl!
#1 Notes to Teacher Dry Erase Board- This is a great way for students to communicate to their teacher without interupting class. This dry erase clip board is a great, unique gift!
You need...
Dry Erase Vinyl
Clip board
Razor blade
Cricut using Sure Cuts a Lot or a Silhouette cutter
Cut a piece of dry erase vinyl that is the same size as the clip board. Put the dry erase vinyl on the clip board.
Cut out smaller pieces of dry erase vinyl for the top sides of the clip board. Put the vinyl on the clip board.
Use razor blade to cut the edge of the vinyl off of the clip board.
Make a title to put on the clip board using Sure Cuts a Lot or the Silhouette.
Put vinyl on the clipboard.
Give this to your child's teacher and they will absolutely love it!
#2 Custom Name Labels- My husband gets so sick and tired of his dry erase markers "running away" to students' desks. These labels are a great way to be sure that they stay in his room. They can be used on books, folders, notebooks, and other school supplies too!
You'll need...
Printer
Use a word procesor like Publisher to write out the teacher's name. Choose a font you like and make different colors of labels. Print out your sheet on the printable vinyl.
Cut the labels apart to create individual stickers.
Put a few on some dry erase markers and give them to the teacher with the extra labels for he/she to label other things around the classroom.
#3 Jumbo Dry Erase Notebook Paper- This is one of my favorite ideas ever. This jumbo dry erase notebook paper sticks onto the teacher's desk so that the teacher can make notes quickly, without using a bunch of sticky notes cluttering up their desk.
You need...
Dry Erase Vinyl
Cricut using Sure Cuts a Lot or Silhouette
Paper cutter
Razor blade
Cut your dry erase vinyl down to 12x9.5 inches. Cut three 1 inch circles (like a piece of notebook paper) on the dry erase vinyl.
Using your paper cutter, cut a small strip of the red vinyl. Put the strip on the side of the holes.
Cut several small strips of the blue vinyl for the notebook lines.
Put the blue vinyl strips on the dry erase vinyl (like notebook lines). Space them apart so that the lines can be written on. After the lines are all on the vinyl, take a razor blade to the edge of the dry erase vinyl so that they lines are even with it.
Now this notebook paper can be stuck to the teacher's desk! It can be written on with dry erase markers and wiped off.
#4 Custom Tie- Male teachers can be really hard to give gifts to. Giving them a custom tie is a great idea. My husband is a very connected teacher online, so I made him a Twitter tie.
You need...
Tie
Iron
Cricut using Sure Cuts a Lot or Silhouette
Create your design and cut it out on your vinyl. Remember to make a mirror image of your design before cutting it out on your iron on vinyl.
Put your vinyl onto the tie and iron it on. Press down hard for about 30 seconds. After the vinyl has cooled off, peel off the backing.
Now your teacher has a new favorite tie and you have created a perfect, unique gift!
#5 Recess Stache Jar- This jar is a play on words and a great way for your teacher to have a snack during recess. A lot of times, teachers don't have time to get a pick me up snack during recess, so having a few in the classroom is great for them.
You need...
Jar
Cricut using Sure Cuts a Lot or Silhouette
Cut out the words "recess stache" and a mustache out of the outdoor vinyl. Put the vinyl on the jar. Fill up the jar with goodies!
Easy peasy and a great teacher gift!
#6 Vinyl Rules- Teachers love to have their expectations listed. Ask the teacher what their rules are so you can make them a personalized rule chart.
You need...
Cricut using Sure Cuts a Lot or Silhouette
Cut out the rules in the indoor vinyl. Once again, an easy one, but it can be an awesome gift!
#7 Face Decal- This decal is too funny. It looks just like my husband! Making a custom vinyl face of your teacher is something that the teacher wouldn't recieve from just anyone!
You need...
Cricut using Sure Cuts a Lot or Silhouette
Think of some defining features of your teacher (hair, glasses, smile, etc). Find silhouettes of those features that you could use to cut out of vinyl. Cut these out of the vinyl.
This is unlike any other gift the teacher would recieve. Do something creative!
#8 Name and Grade Decal- Usually, the school doesn't give the teachers very big signs with their names on them. That is why giving them a bigger and better decal with their name and grade on it is a great gift.
You need...
Cricut using Sure Cuts a Lot or Silhouette
Use a great font and write out the teacher's name and grade level.
Cut the words out on the indoor vinyl.
Now you have a fun personalized gift!
#9 Do You Need This? Jar- Students are always asking teachers for random things like pencils, erasers, and highlighters. Having a jar with all of these kinds of items in it is a great way to keep the teacher's attention on teaching and not on gathering items for students.
You need...
Jar
Outdoor Vinyl
School supplies
Cricut using Sure Cuts a Lot or Silhouette
Design the text saying "Do you need this?" and cut it out of the vinyl. Put it on the jar.
Fill the jar with school supplies that students might need.
It is cute and practical!
#10 Inspiration Quote Decal- Teachers love to have inspirational items in their classrooms. Finding one of their favorite inspirational quotes and making a decal is a great gift
