Back To School "Stats" Chalk And Dry Erase Boards

Hi! It's Ashley here, from Simply Designing! I am so excited to share a back-to-school ideas with you today using some fabulous vinyl from Expressions Vinyl!

On Tuesday, my oldest daughter will start Kindergarten. She is thrilled! I am excited for her, nervous and a little worried. But I decided that regardless, I need to make the best of it, at least until she is on the school bus and I am safe inside the house where I can spend from 8:30 until 3:30 crying. :)

So, I decided that I wanted to make a couple of "stats" boards for my kiddos to use, annually, for first day of school photos! These would also be super cute to use for birthday photos as well!

I went ahead and made two boards, one, using Chalkboard Vinyl and the other using Dry Erase Vinyl.

You don't need any fancy cutter and these are super simple to make!

You will Need:

  • Frame (I picked up a frame from the $1 store and spray painted it in a fun color! I used Valspar Exotic Sea and Maize spray paint.)
  • Foam core
  • Exacto knife
  • Metal ruler
  • Chalkboard or Dry Erase Vinyl

How To:

  1. Using a metal ruler and an exacto knife, cut your foam core to fit inside your picture frame (mine were 8"x10").
  2. Second, carefully peel the backing off of a portion of your vinyl and adhere to your cut foam core.
  3. Use the exacto knife to trim off the excess vinyl.
  4. Secure the foam core in the frame!

If you are using chalkboard vinyl, remember to "season" the vinyl first by rubbing chalk all over the vinyl and wiping it off before use.

Then you are ready to go! Add name, grade, age, year etc and start snapping those first day of school pictures!

Happy Designing!
