How to Use Adhesive Vinyl as a Coloring Page on Wood

Supplies

Hi Everyone, it’s Amy with expressionsvinyl.com and today I am going to show you how I made this fun coloring project using adhesive vinyl, wood, paint, and gel markers.

You can find a ton of free coloring pages on google. That is how I found this owl image. The first thing I did was trace the image and size it to whatever wood piece I was going to use. This one is an 11x11. After cutting and weeding the image, I applied transfer paper, and used the application tool to smooth out the transfer paper. After that I removed the backing paper and applied the image to the board. Then removed the transfer paper to begin coloring.

Just to give you a heads up, the painting aspect was lengthy to complete. I worked on it a little bit each day but it was fun to paint. I like the multi-color effect so I used a mixed selection of acrylic paints.

If you look closely at this image, you may see that there are some very thin lines. Instead of trying to paint those thin lines I added various colors of vinyl to apply as needed. Another way I filled in small pieces was by using gel markers to color in.

There is no right or wrong way to go about coloring or painting. So try it out and have fun!
