Kids DIY Mothers Day Sign

Mother's Day is quickly approaching! If you are a last minute planner and can't seem to find the perfect gift, you can never go wrong with something that's made by little hands with love. I enlisted the help of my toddler for this fun Mother's Day gift for Grandma!

Supplies Needed:

-Silhouette CAMEO

-Menu Board from Michaels

-Oracal 651

This is used for the stencil, flowers and handwritten words. Pick your paint colors and then pick vinyl colors that coordinate. I used Lilac, Mint and Pink.

-Grandma SVG File

-Flower Cut File

-Acrylic Paints

-Painters Tape

-Saran Wrap

Let's get started! First, open and size your SVG file in the Silhouette Studio. I replaced the heart that was included in the Grandma file with the flower design. Once you have everything arranged and sized as you want it, cut the design from some spare Oracal 651. Any color is fine. You are just making a stencil here!

Once your design has finished cutting, weed away the words and the flower, leaving what will be used as your stencil.

Put transfer tape over the entire vinyl area and then carefully place the stencil on your menu board. Once it is placed, rub over it to make sure it has fully adhered and then slowly pull away the transfer tape.

Put Painters Tape around the outside of the vinyl. Next, add your different color paints over the top of the stencil. Put Saran Wrap over the paint and use Painters Tape to hold it down. Now, let your toddler have some fun! Squish the paint around until the whole surface is covered. My little one kept giggling because the paint felt so funny! He loved it.

Carefully remove the Saran Wrap and Painters Tape.

Let the paint dry and then pull away the vinyl. You will also have to carefully weed out the little pieces inside the letters.

I decided to add flowers to the top of the board and thought it would be cute to add my sweet boy's name. We wrote the words on a piece of paper, I took a picture of what we wrote, emailed that to myself, dragged the picture into the Silhouette Studio and then traced.

Grab the vinyl colors that coordinate with your paints and cut! Embellish your board with the flowers and words.

Viola! You now have a gift that Grandma can treasure forever!

Happy crafting and Happy Mother's Day!

xoxo,

Caitlin
