How many of you have a traveler you know who always forgets to pack something important? You know, like pants, socks, or a special outfit for something like a wedding? The whole reason you might be making the trip.

Yep, that's my husband!! We traveled in for my brother's wedding and he forgot to pack his dress pants and shirt. I'm not even joking. He recently accepted a new job that has him traveling half the month and I knew I had to make him something to help him remember the essentials so we're not constantly buying him new clothing. That would get expensive FAST!

Which leads me to today's craft DIY for you. How to make a packing list that attaches inside the suitcase that you can use a dry erase marker to cross off items as you pack them.

The Supply List:

• Scrap piece of plain fabric
• Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV)
• Slicker Iron-On Vinyl
• Hook and Loop Fastening Tape
• Dry Erase Marker
• Silhouette CAMEO or similar

Step 1:

Design your list in Silhouette Studio. I'm using the font Sequel for this project. I wanted it to look more masculine since this is a project for my husband.

Step 2:

This is a heat transfer vinyl project so we need to flip the text horizontally.

Step 3:

Cut the design out of your heat transfer vinyl making sure to adjust your cut settings. Always do a test cut when cutting new material so you can make sure it cuts cleanly.

Step 4:

Weed out the access vinyl using your hook tool or tweezers.

Step 5:

Prepare your fabric swatch by trimming a piece about an inch larger than your list.

Stitch around the edge of the fabric to finish the sides. We used a serger but you can simply fold the edge over and stitch. (I had my mom assist me with this step since it's her machine! Lol, I have no clue how to use one but man they are a timesaver!)

Step 6:

Iron the words onto the fabric scrap using your iron or a heat press.

Step 7:

Add the slicker vinyl over top of the list. I cut it to be about the same size as the fabric scrap inside of the stitching area.

For this material, you peel the vinyl off the backing paper and place the sticky side down on the fabric.

Place the paper backing back over the top of the vinyl to protect it from the heat of the iron, and iron it onto the fabric.

Once it's cool you can remove the paper backing.

Now you have a dry erase safe surface! You can use your marker to cross off the items as you pack them.

Step 8:

Add the adhesive backed hook and loop closure tape to the inside of the suitcase. I cut a small scrap of fabric to place on the other side of the adhesive so it wouldn't stick to the inside of the pocket. Add the other side of the closure to the fabric list.

And there you have it!! A reusable list that attaches inside of your suitcase so you never forget to pack an important item again.
