Quatrefoil Etched Glass Sidelight

Quatrefoil Etched Glass Sidelight

Some of you may remember two summers ago I used Expressions Vinyl Etched Glass Vinyl to do a little subway art on my sidelight window? If you don't remember, you can see the post here. We took the vinyl off when it started to get chilly and my sidelight* has been bare ever since. (*not sure what a sidelight is? It is the technical name for one of those long windows next to your front door :) I'm kinda a nerdy Interior Designer like that...sorry...) But I digress...back to vinyl...

While the Etched Glass vinyl is "technically" permanent vinyl, it will come off a window. With a razor blade and some patience it will come off. (But I had a lot of little letters going on in my last design.) Anyway, I have been stewing on what I wanted to replace it with, and finally inspiration hit! I wanted a simple, elegant yet modern design on there. Something that would last for multiple seasons. Something that could be semi-permanent.

After much contemplating, I decided that I wanted a quatrefoil design on my windows! Simple, elegant, modern, perfection.

Sadly, the Silhouette store didn't have a quatrefoil design that I liked. So I had to design my own.

But with the Designer Edition software this is super simple to do! I just found a free digi file I liked, downloaded it, opened it in Illustrator, modified it, saved it as an SVG file and imported it into my Silhouette library. Did a simple Trace and Cut on it and it was ready to cut! (See HERE for more information on importing SVG files to the Silhouette Software Program. See HERE for more information on using the Trace and Cut feature.)

After my images were sized and cut, I weeded the excess vinyl off and applied them to my newly cleaned windows using Paper Transfer Tape.

I love to use my Pampered Chef scraper to be sure my vinyl is secured down. But rubbing with your fingers, or a popsicle stick does the trick too!

Note: I usually encourage reusing transfer tape. Typically you can apply several designs with one pieces of transfer tape. However, when trying to center an item as large as this, I recommend using a new pieces of transfer tape for each section. Trust me on this one!
