Glow in the Dark Halloween Craft

Hi, guys! Michele from The Scrap Shoppe here to share a quick and easy and GLOWING Halloween craft with you!

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays to decorate for. I love incorporating some of my everyday favorite things into holidays, and for Halloween that usually involves some of my favorite musicals like Phantom of the Opera and Wicked. And it's also a great time to put that glow in the dark vinyl to good use!

This Wicked sign is in my favorite Halloween colors: purple and green. And it's the perfect Halloween decor whether the lights are on... or off!

Supplies:
Glow in the Dark adhesive vinyl
Black Glitter adhesive vinyl
Transfer tape
Wood block
Purple acrylic paint

The images I used were from the Silhouette Image Library: Bat Skeleton, Spiderweb, and Wicked Phrase

Some tips on working with Glow in the Dark adhesive vinyl:
It is VERY thick. When I use it with my Silhouette, the suggested cut settings just didn't cut through. Try practice cuts before sending you entire image to be cut. For the record, I used a blade depth of 4 and a thickness of 10.

Once you're satisfied with the cutting, size your images to fit your work surface and cut them out.

While the images are cutting, give the wood block a couple of coats of paint. I am using Americana Acrylic Purple Rain.

Once dry, sand the entire block and rough up the edges to give it more of a distressed look.

Where the thickness of the glow in the dark vinyl had us at a disadvantage for cutting it, we now will find it quite useful. It is so thick that you can pick it up in tact from the paper backing like a sticker. Place the vinyl on the wood block and press firmly to adhere.

For the large spiderweb in the corner, place it on the front of the wood block. Fold the top over and press in place. Use a pair of sharp scissors to cut the vinyl where it hangs off the edge.

Fold the remainder of the web around the side of the block. Trim off the excess web that is sticking up from the block.

I also wanted to decorate the back of the block, in a style that my little boys could appreciate. The Bat Skeleton file from the Silhouette Library comes with 2 images, the bat itself and it's skeleton. I cut the bat on the black glitter vinyl and the skeleton on the glow in the dark vinyl. Use transfer paper to move the skeleton to the bat silhouette. Then lift the black glitter vinyl with the skeleton on it off the paper backing like a sticker and place on the wood block.

I can't wait to finish decorating my mantel for Halloween! This will be a fun addition to what I already have.
