What Are The Best Fonts For Weeding?

Hey guys, it's Jessica here today from ExpressionsVinyl.com, and today I want to talk about fonts and how to best identify a font that is easier to weed. I've cut a whole bunch of fonts and today I'm going to go through them and tell you how to identify different attributes that will make your life a lot easier!

Bernard MT Condensed - This one, as you can see, has nice, thick edges. That one is going be really easy to weed. You just wiggle your vinyl, or wiggle your weeding vinyl across and it's easy. Then just pop out your middles.

Baskerville Old Face - This next one down here has sharper edges, you can see on the L, it goes into a point and that one's going to be a little more tricky to weed. they kind of catch and you just need to go a little bit slower and make sure your cut settings are right. You can weed it, but it's not nearly as quick as this top one with the thicker letters. So if you're looking for a nice, straight font that's easy to weed, look for really thick edges.

Master of Break - Now we've got a script font here. And you can see the letters, including the points, are all nice and thick. This one's swirly, so you have to do a little more wiggling. But, it's a nice, clean cut that's going to come off.

Magnolia Sky - This is another script font but it's got tiny, little edges, and tiny little swirls connecting each other. So this one's kind of the same, you just have to go slower around those thin pieces. You can't weed it quite as fast. But it's not too bad. This font is one of my current favorites, it's beautiful!

Before the Rain - This next one here is tiny, and you can see I've already lost some letters by weeding this part. So I would stay away from anything that has thin, little, elegant swirls because they are just going to be really, really tricky and time consuming. If you really love the font, and want to take the time, go for it. But make sure you have a lot of patience because you can see how thin, and it picks up and you just have to go around each little letter so carefully. Personally, I wouldn't waste my time on that one.

Alba and AR Destine - Now we're going to go to the super easy ones to weed, these are called a blade runner or a stencil font, and this is where your letters are open. So the "A" is open, the "B" is open, you have nothing to pop out of the middle, it just all weeds nice and clean in one shot. If you need a really quick project, these two are great examples of going fast and weeding it all out. (Especially since you don't have to go back and pop out the middles of your letters.)

EL ROTEX - This next one I have, has really jaggedy edges, and it's pretty tricky to weed. It has a lot of thin, little pieces that are kind of on their own, and not really connected to the letters. It also has some rough edges in the middle, and personally, I wouldn't want to go pop out all those little pieces.
