Floral Vinyl Application Process
The application process of floral heat transfer vinyl is not one that is super complicated. However, it is essential that each of the steps are followed in the exact order, as well as in the correct manner. Carefully following the instructions will ensure that your vinyl will actually adhere to the fabric correctly and will ensure that it will not peel as time passes. The steps of the application process include:

 

Creating the Design
This part is the step where you will be able to have creative power in the whole process. During this part of the process, you will take the time to design the pattern of the vinyl as to how you would like it to look on the finished product. After you have chosen the design that you would like to use, you will then cut the design out. This can be done using a cutting machine. It is so important to make sure that the correct side of the vinyl is lying on the mat face down, and that the design is mirrored or reversed before starting to cut out the design.

 

Setting the Correct Heat
Making sure that the heat is set at the correct temperature is one of the most important parts of the whole process. It is important to make sure that the heat is correct to ensure that the heat does not burn either the vinyl or the clothes. When it comes to heat transfer vinyl, also known as HTV, the typical temperature for this type of vinyl is 305 degrees Fahrenheit or 150 degrees Celsius. However, it is so important to make sure to look at the instructions that come with the vinyl, just to make sure that you do set the heat correctly, so that you do not unintentionally ruin the vinyl, or burn a hole into the fabric.

 

Preheating the Material
It is important to make sure that you are preheating the material that you want to put the vinyl on. This will help ensure that the vinyl will adhere correctly to the material as well as removing any wrinkles beforehand. You can preheat the material by using either an iron or a heat press. Not only will this help preheat the material, but it will also smooth out any wrinkles that are in the material just to make sure that the adhering process will go smoothly.

 

Place Design and Remove Heat
Once the material has been preheated and pressed, it will be time to place the design onto the fabric. It is important to read the instructions that come with the vinyl thoroughly before placing the heat on the material, because if it is not on there for the right amount of time, it will greatly affect the end result. If it is on there for too short of a time, the vinyl will not adhere correctly, but if it is on there for too long, there is potential for it to burn a hole in either the fabric or the vinyl. You will want to make sure that you are adding pressure to the ends of the vinyl in order to prevent peeling in the future.


Make sure to remove the heat immediately after the time is up. Removing the heat immediately will ensure that the vinyl will adhere correctly to the material, and will also prevent any potential burns from happening, so that you can have the best end result possible.

 

Peel Off the Cover Sheet
The final step of this process is to remove the cover sheet from the vinyl. As with other steps, you will want to refer back to the instructions to make sure that you are waiting the correct amount of time before peeling off the cover sheet. For some types of heat transfer vinyl, you can remove it almost immediately, but for other types, you need to wait for it to completely cool down before peeling it off. Following these directions will help keep the vinyl intact while the backing is being peeled from the vinyl.
