Sesame Street Party On A Budget - Part 1

The awesome people at Expressions vinyl are letting me share some thrifty birthday party ideas with you! Birthday parties can get so very expensive! I’m going to show you some fun personalized treats and favors you can incorporate for your next party.

My friend is planning a Sesame Street birthday party for her little one and I offered to help. Today I will show you how to make your own cupcake toppers and Play Doh favors, (Next post will be personalized shirts to match!).

For the cupcake toppers and Play Doh favors I plan to use the same template. The design that I am using was purchased through etsy. I chose to get it from there because I found a great design. You can choose to buy one, find a free one or even create your own. My first step was opening the design in my Silhouette software. I decided to make circles that fit around my images and crop it. Here are some of the toppers and the second pic I will be using as a back layer.

Here is how they look after I layered them.

After I cropped the circles, I had to decide how big I needed everything. For the toppers I made the circles 1.5x1.5, for the Play Doh they are 2x2.

For the Play Doh I am using Silhouette brand white sticker paper or you can use ExpressionsVinyl's Inkjet Printable waterproof Vinyl. I changed my settings for print and cut and printed out 20. These are so super simple and they make such a cute favor!

For the cupcake toppers, I decided to use white adhesive card stock. I want the toppers to be a little more sturdy and I plan to stick two pieces together so there is a front and back to each.

I did the print and cut feature like I did with my Play Doh. After they were cut, I used toothpicks and stuck them together.

That’s it! So very easy, the whole project can be done in less than an hour. You can make this for all kinds of themes and personalize it however you want. You can also use the stickers to close party favor bags or to stick on anything else at the party :) Have extra card stock? Make the same cutouts smaller and it can be table confetti!
